Which is better: North or South beach Scarborough?

This is a question our guests often ask.

And the answer: You decide! They’re both fantastic to visit, but they have very different offerings.

We’re very lucky to have two stunning bays in Scarborough. Both the South bay and North bay beaches are within easy walking distance of The Salisbury and 25 Newborough by Stay in Scarborough.

The two beaches are separated by the historic Scarborough Castle headland.

South beach Scarborough

Scarborough’s south bay has everything you would expect from a traditional seaside town.

You can take a stroll down to the south bay from Scarborough town centre through St. Nicholas Gardens or hop on the Central Tram – one of the oldest railways in the UK.

The long sandy beach is perfect for building sandcastles and relaxing on a deck chair. You can even experience a donkey ride.

There are plenty of places to eat and drink and no trip to the south bay would be complete without an order of fish and chips followed by a delicious ice cream.

Top tip: Give a lemon topped ice cream from the Harbour Bar a try – a Scarborough speciality!

For high energy fun, visit Luna Park theme park and enjoy the thrills of the rides. Or if you’re looking for old school amusements and arcades with coin pushers and grabber galore – then South bay has it in abundance!
